Halloween has always been one of my favorite times of year, not just for the costumes and decorations but also for the food. I’ve always loved the idea of playful treats that bring a little fun to the table without taking hours in the kitchen. One year, I needed something quick for a party, and that’s how these Oreo eyeballs first came about.

They remind me a lot of Rice Krispies Treats in that they’re easy, no bake, and always a crowd favorite. With just a few simple ingredients, they turn into a dessert that looks festive without much effort. Over time, they’ve become a go-to in my lineup of easy Halloween desserts, especially when I’m short on time but still want something creative to share.

I also enjoy making them with my grandchildren. The decorating part is simple enough that kids can get involved, and it usually turns into a fun, slightly messy project that makes the end result even better. They love seeing their finished “eyeballs,” and it’s the kind of activity that feels just as memorable as the party itself.

Why You’ll Love These Oreo Eyeballs

  • No baking required. Skip the oven and keep things simple. These spooky Halloween treats are assembled in just a few minutes using store-bought ingredients.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Ingredients for Halloween Oreo Eyeballs including a dish of Oreo cookies, red and green decorating gel tubes, and a small bowl of candy eyeballs on a marble surface.
  • Double Stuff Oreos (regular will not work as they barely put any filling in them anymore, so they do not separate well.)
  • Red decorating gel
  • Green decorating gel
  • Candy eyeballs

How to Make Oreo Eyeballs

Step 1: Separate the Oreo Cookies. Carefully twist apart each Double Stuff Oreo cookie. Arrange the cookie halves with the white filling intact on a tray or parchment-lined baking sheet. Set the plain cookie halves aside for snacking or another recipe.

Step 2: Add the Green Icing. Place a small dab of green gel icing in the center of the white Oreo filling.

Step 3: Add the Candy Eyeball. Gently press one candy eyeball into the center of the green icing. The gel icing will help hold it in place while also adding a fun pop of color.

Step 4: Make the Bloodshot Veins. Use the red gel icing to draw thin lines starting near the green center and extending outward toward the edge of the white filling.

Step 5: Let the Icing Set. Let the decorated Oreo Eyeballs sit for a few minutes so the gel icing can firm up slightly before serving or storing. Arrange them on a Halloween platter for an easy no-bake party treat.

Tips for the Best Oreo Eyeballs

  • Use Double Stuff Oreos only. The extra filling helps the cookies separate cleanly without breaking apart. Regular Oreos contain much less filling than they used to, making them difficult to twist open while keeping the filling intact.
  • Separate the cookies slowly and carefully. A gentle twisting motion works best. If the filling sticks to both sides, use a butter knife to carefully transfer it to one cookie half before decorating.
  • Use a small amount of green gel icing. A tiny dab is all you need to create the iris. Too much icing can make the candy eyeball slide out of place.
  • Vary the red vein patterns. Real eyes aren’t perfectly symmetrical, so making each cookie slightly different gives your Halloween treats a more realistic and creepy appearance.

Make-Ahead & Storage

  • Make them up to 2 days ahead. Oreo Eyeballs can be assembled 1 to 2 days before your event, making party prep much easier.
  • Refrigerate until ready to serve. The cool temperature helps the gel icing stay in place and keeps the cookies looking their best.
  • Best enjoyed within 48 hours. While the cookies will remain safe to eat longer, they look and taste their freshest within the first two days after decorating.
  • Easy to transport. Arrange the cookies in a single layer in a sturdy container with a tight-fitting lid to keep the decorations intact on the way to school parties, Halloween events, or potlucks.
