Halloween Oreo Spiders
Looking for a Halloween treat that’s as fun to make as it is to eat? These Oreo spiders come together in minutes with just a few simple ingredients. No baking and no fuss, just a playful, kid-friendly dessert that always gets smiles. Perfect for parties, school events, or a cozy night at home, they’re spooky in looks but sweet in every bite.

Some of my favorite memories come from gathering the grandkids around the kitchen table in October. We spread out a tray of Oreos, bowls of pretzel sticks, and a little dish of candy eyes, and before long the room is full of giggles and sticky fingers.

These Oreo spiders are just the kind of treat kids love to make because they can do most of it themselves. They twist, tuck, and press until each cookie has its own personality, some with crooked legs, others with eyes looking in every direction. That’s part of the fun, and honestly, it’s what makes them so special.
I’ve come to think of these cookies less as a recipe and more as a tradition. Every year, the spiders show up on our Halloween table, and every year they bring the same joy. If you’d like a treat that’s simple, festive, and memory-making all at once, this is the one to try.

How to Make Halloween Oreos Spiders
Now that your ingredients are ready, let’s put these Halloween spider cookies together. I’ll walk you through each step so you feel confident making them, even if you’re doing it with kids gathered around the table. (You can also scroll down to the printable recipe card for quick reference.)
- Lay down a sheet of parchment paper to keep your cookies from sticking and to make cleanup easier.
2. Slice the licorice ropes into 1-inch pieces and set them aside. These will become your spider legs.
3. Carefully twist apart each Oreo, making sure the filling stays on one side.

4. Place four licorice pieces on each side of the filling and press them in gently so they stay put. Each spider should have eight legs.
5. Replace the top half of the Oreo and press it lightly back into place to secure the legs.

6. Dab two small spots of black icing onto the top of the cookie.
7. Place the candy eyeballs on the icing and press them gently so they stick.

Nana’s Cooking Tip
If you’re making these with kids, let them decorate a few however they like. Crooked legs and silly eyes are part of the fun.
Pro Tips for Best Results

Oreo Spiders Variations
- Switch up the legs: Licorice ropes are traditional, but pretzel sticks add a salty crunch and Twizzler Pull ’n’ Peel makes chewy spider legs kids love.
- Change up the eyes: If you can’t find candy eyeballs, try mini chocolate chips, M&Ms, or even a dot of black icing for a simple substitute.
- Play with the filling: Regular Oreos are great, but Halloween Oreos with orange filling make these spiders extra festive.

Storage & Leftover Tips
- Room temperature is best: Keep Oreo Spider Cookies in an airtight container at room temperature. They’ll stay fresh and crisp for up to 2 days.
- Avoid the fridge: Refrigerating them can make the cookies soften too quickly and the licorice or pretzel legs lose their texture.
- Make ahead for parties: These are perfect for a classroom Halloween party or family gathering because you can assemble them the night before. They hold up beautifully.
- Travel tip: If you’re bringing them to a party, layer parchment paper between cookie layers in a container so the candy eyes don’t pop off during the trip.
- Leftovers (if you have any): These cookies tend to disappear fast, but if you do have a few extras, enjoy them within a couple of days while the textures are still crisp.

Oreo Spiders Halloween Cookies
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 18 1x
Description
These Oreo spider cookies are a quick and festive no-bake Halloween treat. They’re simple enough for kids to help with and perfect for parties or classroom snacks.
Ingredients
- 18 Double-Stuffed Oreos
- Eye ball candies
- Licorice ropes, cut into 1-inch pieces (or Twizzler Pull ’n’ Peel, pretzel sticks)
- Black icing (or melted chocolate, peanut butter)
Equipment
- Parchment paper
- Small scissors or kitchen shears
Instructions
- Place a sheet of parchment paper on the counter or a baking sheet. This gives you a clean spot to work and a place for the finished cookies to rest.
- Use kitchen scissors or a sharp knife to cut the licorice ropes into 1-inch pieces. You’ll need eight pieces for each Oreo Spider. Set them aside in a small bowl for easy grabbing.
- Twist each Oreo gently until the top cookie comes off. Try to keep all the cream filling on one side. If a cookie breaks, don’t worry you’ll have extras.
- Take four licorice pieces and press them into the cream filling on one side of the Oreo. Repeat on the other side so your spider has eight legs total. If the legs aren’t sticking, press them a little deeper into the cream.
- Place the top half of the Oreo back on and press it down gently. Be careful not to push too hard or the cream will squish out the sides.
- Using the black icing, pipe two small dots on the top of the Oreo. This works as glue for the eyes. You can also use melted chocolate or peanut butter if you prefer.
- Press one candy eyeball into each icing dot. Hold for a second so they stick in place. Repeat with the rest of the cookies until all of your spiders are “looking” at you.
- Let the cookies sit for 5–10 minutes so the icing firms up. Arrange them on a tray or plate and enjoy your spooky, silly creations.
Notes
- Double-Stuffed Oreos work best because the extra filling holds the legs securely.
- Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Avoid refrigerating, as it softens the cookies.
