Oreo Truffle Bats (Easy Spooky Treat)

Looking for an easy Halloween dessert that’s as fun to make as it is to eat? These Oreo truffle bats are rich, chocolatey, and no-bake, just Oreo cookie balls, cream cheese, and melted chocolate. Perfect for kids’ Halloween parties or a simple no bake Halloween treat at home, they’ll fly off the plate in no time.

Tray of finished Oreo Truffle Bats arranged on a black slate board, each made from Oreo truffle balls coated in crumbs with Oreo cookie wings and candy eyes, a fun no bake Halloween dessert for parties.

I only started making these Oreo truffle bats a couple of years ago, and I wish I had found them sooner. They quickly became a staple at my Halloween gatherings because they are simple, festive, and always bring a smile. The first time I set a tray on the table, they disappeared before I could even blink.

What I love most is that they are playful without being fussy. Just Oreos, cream cheese, and chocolate come together to make something that looks like it took far more effort than it really does. Now every October, friends and family ask if the bats are coming back, and I am happy to say the answer is always yes.

Eight Oreo Truffle Bats arranged neatly on a black slate tray with Oreo cookie wings and candy eyes, served as a festive no bake Halloween party dessert with striped cloth and orange decorations in the background.

So here I am, sharing them with you. Once you have made a batch, I have a feeling they will become a tradition in your kitchen too.

How to Make Oreo Truffle Bats

This recipe yields 12 servings and comes together with just 20 minutes of hands-on prep, plus 1 hour of chilling time.

Step 1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.

Step 2. Carefully separate 6 Oreo cookies and remove the cream filling. Break each cookie half in half to create the wings, then set them aside until you’re ready to assemble.

Step 3. Place 24 Oreo cookies in a food processor and pulse until fine crumbs form. Measure out ¼ cup of the crumbs and set them aside for later.

Variations

  • Switch up the look by using different colored candy eyes to give each Oreo bat its own personality.
  • For a slightly different texture and flavor, roll the truffles in crushed chocolate graham crackers instead of Oreo crumbs.
  • Stir a few drops of orange food coloring into the cream cheese mixture for a festive Halloween touch.
  • Create bite-sized treats by rolling the mixture into smaller portions and making mini Oreo bats.
  • Coat the finished bats in melted chocolate for an extra-rich chocolate layer.
  • Try using chocolate wafer cookies in place of Oreos for the wings for a fun variation on the classic design.

Make Ahead and Storage

  • Store Oreo Truffle Bats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Keep them chilled until serving since the cream cheese filling softens at room temperature.
  • Separate layers with parchment paper to prevent the wings and candy eyes from getting damaged.
  • Freeze in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months if you’d like to make them ahead.
  • Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving for the best texture and appearance.

Tips for Perfect Truffle Bats

  • Crush cookies finely: The smoother your Oreo crumbs, the creamier the truffles will be. A food processor works best, but a rolling pin and a sturdy bag will do in a pinch.
  • Use crumbs as “glue”: Rolling the balls in reserved crumbs not only makes them look neat but also helps cover up any sticky spots.
  • Keep them cold until serving: These bats hold their shape best when chilled. If you’re bringing them to a party, transport them in a cooler and add the eyes once you arrive, just to be safe.

Oreo Bat Halloween Truffles FAQs

If you don’t have candy eyeballs on hand, mini white chocolate chips make a great substitute. You can also cut small pieces of white chocolate and use black decorating gel or food-safe marker to add pupils for a similar look.

For the best results, gently press the Oreo wings into the sides of each ball while the mixture is still soft and easy to shape. Once chilled, the wings will stay securely in place.

Do I Need a Food Processor?

A food processor is the easiest way to create fine Oreo crumbs, but it’s not required. You can place the cookies in a zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin until they reach a fine crumb consistency.

Yes! These Oreo Truffle Bats are perfect for making ahead. Prepare them up to 2 days in advance and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve.

Yes, Oreo Truffle Bats freeze well for up to 2 months. Place them in a freezer-safe container and freeze until needed. When you’re ready to serve, thaw them overnight in the refrigerator.
