Grinch Brownies Recipe (Easy & Festive Christmas Treat)

Recipe by Rebekah Winscott

These Grinch brownies are the ultimate holiday treat — rich, fudgy chocolate topped with bright green buttercream and heart sprinkles. Whether you use a boxed mix or bake from scratch, they’re easy, kid-friendly, and guaranteed to make hearts grow three sizes this Christmas!

  • Total Time50 minutes
  • Yield9 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 box milk chocolate brownie mix + water, oil, eggs (on box)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • neon green gel food coloring
  • 1 tablespoon heart sprinkles
  • 2 tablespoons green M&Ms

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven according to the box directions or 350°F (175°C) if baking from scratch. Prepare the batter and pour into a 9×9-inch baking pan lined with parchment paper.
  2. Bake until the center is set and a toothpick comes out mostly clean. Let the brownies cool completely before frosting — this keeps the buttercream from melting.
  3. Beat softened butter and powdered sugar until creamy. Add vanilla and heavy cream until smooth and fluffy. Tint with neon green gel food coloring until you reach your desired shade.
  4. Spread frosting evenly over cooled brownies. Top with green M&Ms and heart sprinkles. Chill for 15–20 minutes before cutting for cleaner slices.
