Firecracker Pretzel Rods

Recipe by Rebekah Winscott

These easy firecracker pretzel rods are a fun red, white, and blue treat made with pretzel rods, candy melts, and patriotic sprinkles. They’re sweet, salty, festive, and perfect for the 4th of July, summer parties, and kid-friendly holiday treats.

  • Total Time45 minutes
  • Yield12 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 12 pretzel rods
  • 1/2 cup red candy melts
  • 1/2 cup white candy melts
  • 1/2 cup blue candy melts
  • 2 tablespoons patriotic sprinkles (red, white, and blue)

Instructions

Prepare the Baking Sheet

1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside so your pretzels don’t stick later.

Melt the Candy Coating

2. Place ½ cup candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl and heat at 50% power for 30 seconds.

3. Stir, then continue heating in 30-second intervals, stirring between each round, until smooth and fully melted.

4. Be careful not to overheat, or the candy can become thick and hard to work with.

Dip the Pretzel Rods

5. Dip one pretzel rod into the melted candy, using a spoon to coat about half the pretzel evenly.

6. Gently shake off any excess candy, then place it on the prepared baking sheet.

Add Sprinkles

7. Immediately add patriotic sprinkles while the coating is still wet so they stick nicely.

8. Repeat with the remaining pretzels, working with one candy melt color at a time for the best results.

Let Set and Serve

9. Let the pretzels set at room temperature for 15 to 30 minutes, or refrigerate for about 10 minutes to speed things up.

10. Serve once set, or store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Notes

  • Melt candy melts slowly at 50% power to keep them smooth and easy to dip.
  • If coating thickens, stir in a little coconut oil to loosen it.
  • Add sprinkles right after dipping so they stick properly.
  • Work one color at a time to keep candy warm and smooth.
