Hot Chocolate Sticks

Recipe by Rebekah Winscott

This easy Christmas Hot Chocolate Sticks recipe is the perfect homemade holiday treat! Made with chocolate almond bark, hot cocoa mix, mini marshmallows, and festive sprinkles, these creamy hot cocoa stirrers make adorable Christmas gifts, party favors, or cozy winter treats.

  • Total Time1 hour 2 minutes
  • Yield6 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 24 ounces of chocolate almond bark
  • 6 packets of instant hot chocolate mix
  • 1 cup of mini marshmallows
  • 3 tablespoons of Christmas sprinkles
  • 3 red paper straws, cut in half
  • 6 small paper bathroom-style cups
  • A bit of tape

Instructions

  1. Cut a slit down one side of each paper cup. Use Scotch tape to reconnect the slit. This will make the cups easier to remove later.
  2. Add the chocolate almond bark to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted and smooth.
  3. Use a spoon to coat the inside of each paper cup with melted chocolate. Smooth it out evenly, adding a little extra chocolate to the bottom of each cup for stability. Refrigerate for 10 minutes.
  4. Repeat with a second layer of chocolate, coating the inside of each cup again. Press one straw half into the center of each cup. Refrigerate for another 10 minutes.
  5. Add hot chocolate mix to each cup, filling each one slightly less than full to leave room for the top layer.
  6. Spoon melted chocolate over the hot chocolate mix to seal the top. Press mini marshmallows into the chocolate.
  7. Use a fork to drizzle extra chocolate over the marshmallows. Add more marshmallows and Christmas sprinkles.
  8. Refrigerate for 20 minutes, or until fully set.
  9. Remove the tape and carefully peel away the paper cups.
  10. If desired, drizzle with any remaining melted chocolate and top with extra sprinkles before serving or gifting.

Notes

  • Stir one hot chocolate stick into 8 ounces of hot milk until fully melted.
  • Whole milk makes the creamiest hot chocolate, but any milk works.
  • Store in an airtight container in a cool place or refrigerate for best freshness.
