- Garlic cloves, minced or smashed – Garlic and lemon are a classic pairing that gives the chicken incredible flavor.
- Olive oil or melted butter – Helps the seasonings stick and encourages crispy, golden skin.
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Lemon – For serving and squeezing over the chicken just before eating.
- Optional: Chicken broth – Helps keep the chicken moist during cooking and creates flavorful juices.
- Optional: Chopped fresh parsley – Adds a pop of color and freshness before serving.
How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Legs
Step 1: Pat the chicken legs dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, mix together the lemon zest, garlic, olive oil or melted butter, salt, and pepper.
Step 2: Rub the lemon-garlic mixture all over the chicken legs, coating the skin evenly. If using chicken broth, add 1 to 2 tablespoons to the bottom of the air fryer basket or tray.
Step 3: Let the chicken sit for 10 to 15 minutes, if time allows, to help the flavors develop.
Step 4: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) if your model requires it.
Step 5: Arrange the chicken legs in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 18 to 22 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the skin is golden and crisp and the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
Step 6: Let the chicken rest for 3 to 5 minutes. If desired, squeeze fresh lemon juice over the top and garnish with chopped parsley.
Step 7: Serve warm with lemon slices on the side.

Storage and Reheating
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Freeze for up to 3 months in a freezer-safe container. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
- Reheat in the air fryer at 375°F for 4–6 minutes, or until heated through and the skin is crispy again.
- For oven reheating, bake at 350°F for 10–15 minutes until warmed through.
- Avoid microwaving when possible, as it can make the skin soft instead of crisp.
