4th of July Cookies

Recipe by Rebekah Winscott

These soft and chewy 4th of July cookies are loaded with red, white, and blue M&Ms for the perfect patriotic dessert. They’re easy to make, festive, and great for summer cookouts, BBQs, and Independence Day parties.

  • Total Time32 minutes
  • Yield24 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups red, white & blue M&Ms

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking trays with parchment pap
  2. In a large bowl, cream butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs and vanilla until combined.
  4. Mix in flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined. Do not over mix.
  5. Fold in M&Ms.
  6. Scoop dough onto prepared baking trays, spacing evenly.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set but centers are still slightly soft.
  8. Cool on tray for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Do not over bake these cookies. The centers should still look slightly soft when they come out of the oven.
  • Letting the cookies cool on the baking tray helps them finish setting without drying out.
