Description
Tender and juicy Instant Pot pulled pork made with simple spices and pork shoulder steaks. This easy pressure cooker recipe is perfect for sandwiches, tacos, nachos, or meal prep and is ready in about an hour.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds pork shoulder steaks, left whole
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 cup chicken broth or water
- 1/2 cup plain BBQ sauce (for serving)
Instructions
- Pat the pork shoulder steaks dry with paper towels. Season all sides with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Turn on the Sauté setting on your Instant Pot and add the olive oil. Sear the pork steaks for 2–3 minutes per side, working in batches if needed. Press Cancel when done.
- Pour the chicken broth or water into the Instant Pot.
- Close the lid and set the valve to Sealing. Pressure cook on High for 60 minutes.
- Allow the pressure to release naturally for 15–20 minutes, then quick release any remaining pressure.
- Remove the pork from the pot and shred with two forks. Drain excess liquid if desired, toss with BBQ sauce, and serve.
Notes
- Pork shoulder steaks are ideal for pulled pork because they stay tender and shred easily after pressure cooking.
- For extra flavor, don’t skip the searing step before pressure cooking.
- If the pork doesn’t shred easily, pressure cook it for another 10–15 minutes.
- Serve on sandwich buns, tacos, nachos, or over baked potatoes.
