4th of July Buttercream Board

Description

This easy 4th of July buttercream board is a fun no-bake party dessert made with colorful buttercream, fresh strawberries, cookies, pretzels, Chex Mix, graham crackers, chocolate, and patriotic sprinkles.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oz buttercream frosting
  • 3 to 5 drops red food gel color
  • 3 to 5 drops navy blue food gel color
  • Chex Mix
  • Shortbread cookies
  • Pretzels
  • Strawberries, washed and dried
  • Graham crackers
  • Chocolate bars, broken into pieces
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles mix

Instructions

  1. Split the buttercream into 3 bowls, making one bowl slightly larger than the other two for the white frosting.
  2. Add 3 to 5 drops of red food gel color to one smaller bowl and 3 to 5 drops of navy blue food gel color to the other, then mix until each color is smooth and evenly blended.
  3. Place your piping tip into a large piping bag and cut a medium hole so the tip fits halfway through.
  4. Spoon each frosting color into its own piping bag and secure the open end of each bag.
  5. Set your clean serving board on a flat surface and get your frosting bags ready beside it.
  6. Insert the red frosting bag into the piping bag fitted with the tip, pull the inner bag slightly through the tip, and snip the end where the opening begins.
  7. Starting at the top of the board, pipe the red frosting in a loose, flowing design across the board, letting the trail cover a good portion of the surface.
  8. Remove the red frosting bag and wipe the inside of the piping tip with a paper towel.
  9. Insert the white frosting bag, pipe a little frosting onto a paper towel to clear out any red, then pipe a thick white line just inside the red frosting trail.
  10. Remove the white frosting bag, clean the tip again, then repeat the same process with the blue frosting bag.
  11. Pipe the blue frosting as the third line inside the white frosting to create a red, white, and blue design.
  12. If you would like, use any leftover frosting to pipe small dots around the corners of the board.
  13. Arrange the Chex Mix, shortbread cookies, and pretzels around the outside of the frosting trail.
  14. Place the strawberries inside the frosting design, leaving enough space so the piped pattern still shows.
  15. Fill any larger gaps on the board with graham crackers and pieces of chocolate bars.
  16. Finish with a generous sprinkle of red, white, and blue sprinkles, then serve right away or chill briefly before serving.

Notes

  • Gel food coloring works best because it adds bold color without thinning the frosting.
  • Make sure the strawberries are fully dry so they do not water down the buttercream.
  • For the neatest look, assemble the board shortly before serving.
